Dorothy Smith, 105, Oblong, IL went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday November 24, 2016. She was residing at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL.

VISITATION will be 1:00 -3:00 P.M. on Sunday November 27, 2016 at Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, IL.

CELEBRATION OF DOROTHY’S LIFE  will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday November 27, 2016 at Pulliam  Funeral Home in Oblong, IL. Burial will follow in the Oblong Cemetery.

Dorothy was born in Kibbie, IL on September 28, 1911. She was the daughter of U.S. (Wesley) Welsh and Minna May (Young) Welsh. On February 8, 1929 she married the love of her life Ocie V. Smith, Sr.

Dorothy attended school in Stoy where her mother was a teacher. She graduated from Oblong Township High School and graduated from Evansville Business School. She was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church. She was a member of Eastern Star, a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher and played in a number of card clubs.

Looking at Dorothy’s life, it was easy seeing what was most important to her, faith, family, and baking. She loved reading her well worn Bible, spending time with family, cooking the most wonderful meals, playing cards, working puzzles, spending time in Florida, watching The Weather Channel, Larry Bird until he retired and Lebron James play basketball.

Dorothy is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Jerry J. and Marilyn Smith, New Kent, Virginia; two daughters and son-in-law, Vivienne Ackman and Helen and John Larrabee, and daughter-in-law Janet Smith, all of Oblong; fourteen grandchildren John Ackman, Steve Ackman, Barbara(Ackman) Simmons, Jim Ackman, Scott Ackman, Ocie Smith III, Mike Smith, Lori (Smith) Dart, Theresa(Smith) Campbell, Valinda(Smith) Plott, J.T. Smith, Wesley Smith, Lisa(Larrabee) Lockhart and Mary Kathleen(Larrabee) Moore; thirty great-grandchildren; twenty three great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, two brothers, David Welsh and Wesley Welsh (infant), husband, Ocie V. Smith, Sr., son, Ocie Smith, Jr., son-in-law, Carol Ackman
